TEHRAN (IQNA) – Shortly after 9/11, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Garry Wills was speaking with several academics when someone asked who among them had read the Quran. The answer: No one.

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author Garry Wills Will Share His Views about the Quran on Oct. 7

"I was embarrassed by my own ignorance, and hurried off to remedy it,” Wills wrote in an exchange of emails with LNP.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Wills will discuss his book "What the Qur’an Meant And Why It Matters” at 6 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church. The Parish Resource Center is organizing the event.

The Rev. Noe Juarez, associate pastor for missions and family ministries at Highland Presbyterian, said bringing an author of Wills’ stature "will help us understand the Muslim religion on a more personal level.”

Wills, who is Catholic, has written a number of critically acclaimed books on religion including "What Jesus Meant,” "Papal Sin,” "Why I Am a Catholic” and "Why Priests?”

This book follows in that same vein. He explained that after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, "We were under a barrage of misrepresentations or outright lies” about the Quran, and he began to share what he had learned from his research in speeches and with his book.
