Turkish Scholar Deplores Riyadh’s Negative Role in Muslim World
Speaking to IQNA, Cuneyt Akalin, a professor of political sciences at Istanbul Arel University, said the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are also following Saudi Arabia in their policies.
The Saudis need to change their path regarding the Muslim world issues, he underlined.
“They pay no attention to the issue of Quds (Jerusalem) and continue the war in Yemen.”
Riyadh should make the decision whether or not it wants to continue to cooperate with the US and Israel, he said, adding that, otherwise, negative reactions to the kingdom will intensify day after day.
Referring to US President Donald Trump’s recent move to declare Quds as capital of the Israeli regime, Akalin hailed the Muslim world’s reaction to the move as acceptable, saying the majority of Muslim countries adopted a clear stance against it.
Islamic countries and those advocating peace demonstrated that they will not give in to injustice and bullying, he stressed.
Apart from the Tel Aviv regime and some small countries, all of the world opposed the US decision and this is very important, he said.
Trump officially declared the disputed city Israel’s capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.
In a speech at the White House on December 6, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city.
Palestinian leaders had previously warned the move would threaten a two-state solution.
On December 21, More than 100 countries defied Trump and voted in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to withdraw its decision.
Israel has occupied East Quds since the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law, the area is considered to be occupied territory.
