Malaysia Int’l Quran Contest: Winners Announced

KUALA LUMPUR (IQNA) – Winners of Malaysia’s 60th international Quran competition were officially announced on Saturday.

 

According to IQNA dispatches, the names of the winners were announced at the closing ceremony held at the Putra World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, attended by Malaysia’s king.

The panel of judges of the competition selected Abdullah bin Fahmi from the host country as the top winner in the recitation category of the men section.

The runner-up was Iran’s Mokhtar Dehqan and Salaheddin Haysam from Algeria came third.

In the category of memorization in this section, Kalim Sediqi from Bangladesh, Walid Hamad Muhammad Marzuqi from the United Arab Emirates and the representative of Sudan won the three top titles.

In the women section, too, the winner of the top prize in the recitation category was from Malaysia.

The second and third ranks in this category went to the representatives of Indonesia and Singapore respectively.

In memorization, meanwhile, female memorizers from Mauritania, Malaysia and Tanzania came first to third.

Officially named the “International Al Quran Recital and Memorisation Assembly”, the competition started on Monday with the participation of Quran reciters and memorizers from 56 countries.

There were a total of 53 Qaris and 25 Quran memorizers competing in the two sections (for men and women).
