TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 17th Annual MAS-ICNA Convention, one of the largest and most diverse Islamic conventions in North America, kicked off in Chicago on Friday.

Speakers and participants at the three-day event discuss the challenges facing American Muslims and their work to build a better future.

The annual convention of the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) will run until December 30.

This year’s theme for the summit, underway in Chicago’s McCormick Congress Center, is “Quran: The Light to the World.”

The event has drawn thousands of Muslims from across the United States and Canada to McCormick Place in Chicago, known as the nation’s largest convention center.

The number has increased from only 500 attendants who appeared at the first convention that followed 9/11 twin tower attacks.

The activities include artistic performances, exhibitions, business meetings, a Quran recitation contest, and an exhibition.

ICNA is one of the largest, non-profit, grassroots Muslim organizations in North America with many projects, programs, and activities designed to help in reforming society at large.

Since 1968, ICNA has worked to build relations between communities by devoting itself to education, outreach, social services and relief efforts.
