TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry in a statement described the Zionist regime of Israel as a real threat to world peace and security and called for international efforts to end the regime’s occupation of Palestine.

The statement was released on the 71st anniversary of Nakba Day (the Day of Catastrophe), when hundreds of Palestinians were forcibly evicted from their homeland by Israelis, and scattered across refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Palestine’s neighboring countries.

It said on the Nakba Day 71 years ago, an illegitimate entity called the Zionist regime was born with support from the US and by usurping the Palestinian land and since then has continued its existence with war, crimes and occupation.

The statement said the Tel Aviv regime has become the fundamental factor behind all regional crises and a threat to peace and stability in the world.

It called on the international community to put an end to Israeli occupation of Palestine and provide the condition for the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland after 71 years of displacement due to Israeli occupation.

The Foreign Ministry also expressed Iran’s solidarity with the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The Nakba Day is officially marked every year on May 15, one day after the Israeli regime came into existence in 1948.

Some 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their lands in 1948 and were scattered across refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Palestine’s neighboring countries. Now, over five million Palestinian refugees are estimated to be still displaced.
