Yemen’s Interior Ministry said some 100 copies of rare Quran manuscripts have been stolen from a mosque in the country.

The ministry said unidentified individuals entered the Qubba bin Hadi grand mosque in the Umran province two days ago and made off with the rare manuscript copies, Sama news agency reported.

Security forces have begun investigations to identify the thieves and find the historical manuscripts.

Yemen, which has a large treasury of manuscript works, has witnessed several cases of robbery in which rare manuscripts were stolen.

Just recently, several precious manuscripts works and historical data-x-items were taken from the Sultan Al-Qaeiti Palace in the Makla region.

Instability and insecurity have been widespread in Yemen since January 2011. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have turned out for regular anti-government demonstrations in the country’s major cities.
