--“In order to entirely eliminate usury from our banking system there should be bills ratified by the Majlis and then submitted to the Guardian Council,” said the Guardian Council spokesman.
Abbasali Kadkhodaei, who was speaking with reporters at his weekly press conference, noted that the Guardian Council con not decide on such issues unless they are first decided on by the Majlis or questions on the issue are put forward to the council by the Administrative Court of Justice.

“The usury and the problems caused by delays in repayment of loans are issues which are problematic in terms of both economy and Islamic jurisprudence. However, these cases ought to be dealt with by the Majlis in the first place,” he stated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khadkhodaei extended his condolences on the demise of Quranic and religious historian and researcher Hojat-ol-Islam Davani.

He also condemned the detention Thursday of six Iranian diplomats during a raid by U.S. forces on an Iranian consulate in the Kurdish city of Irbil, Iraq.
