According to IQNA’s branch in Azerbaijan, the supreme court of Azerbaijan had ruled that the Fatemeh Zahra (SA) Mosque should be demolished. The ruling led to protests and reactions from religious communities in the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as other Islamic countries.
The mosque is under construction in Baku.
Sheikh-ol-Islam Allah Shakur Pashazadeh, head of Muslims Office of Caucasus, had asked the president in a letter to prevent the ruling from being carried out and assign the Muslims Office to deal with the issue in a proper way.
The president was also informed of the discontent of the local people and the religious communities through a letter sent by a number of scholars and religious authorities in Azerbaijan.
Shia sources of emulation grand Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani and grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi had also urged the Azerbaijani authorities last week to stop any attempts leading to the demolition of the mosque which would hurt Muslims’ sentiments.
