According to Noon news agency, the festival was held with the participation of a group of poets from Karbala Province at the center of the union.
Salam Mohammad Al-Banay, secretary of public relations and media of the union said that the festival was organized on the occasion of Muharram and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
“It is a tradition among poets of the region to hold the gathering annually to clarify the status of the Imam in literature,” he added.
The festival was addressed by Hassan Abid Isaa, Abdul Razaaq Abdul Karim and Sabih Heydar and continued with poems recited by poets such Ali Al-Fatal, Hadi Al-Rabi’I, Abdul Hussein Khalaf Al-Da’mi, Mahdi Al-Na’imi, Najah Al-‘Arsan, Isma’il Aziz, Mohammad Taher.
He also stated that the Ashura incident and the character of Imam Hussein (AS) are the themes of many poems, have influenced many cultures and literatures and encouraged literary figures to write many works on the resistance of Imam Hussein (AS) against tyranny.
Abbas Khalaf, head of the union then stressed the need for continuation of holding such festivals, believing that there is a long way to go to introduce Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising to the world.
