Lebanon’s top cleric has called on the Lebanese to unite in denouncing the US-made movie mocking the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Press TV reports.
Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani urged Muslims and Christians to join hands in foiling enemy attempts to create a rift among the followers of the two religions.
“If they succeed in their attempts, we will only sow useless bloody conflicts,” Qabbani warned in a statement.
He called on people to pressure authorities into taking all necessary diplomatic measures in the name of Muslims and Christians against the United States, which hosted and supported the producers of the sacrilegious movie.
The cleric said the US should be aware of the repercussions of such offensive moves, calling on Washington to assume its responsibilities and hold accountable those involved in the blasphemous act.
“This kind offense terminates the human freedom of belief under the disguise of counterfeit legislation and laws,” Qabbani stated, urging US authorities to prevent repetition of such offenses.
The Muslim world is seething with anti-US sentiments over the release of the $5-million movie financed by more than 100 Zionists.
Angry protesters across the world have poured into the street to condemn the movie and demand the US government apologize to the Muslim world.
In Yemen, one person was killed after security forces opened fire on the furious demonstrators who stormed the US Embassy in the capital, Sana’a.
On Tuesday, thousands of Egyptians stormed the embassy, scaled its walls, pulled down the US flag and called for the expulsion of the US ambassador to Egypt.
In the same day, clashes broke out at the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi after a group of people held a demonstration to protest against the anti-Islam movie.
US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three staff members of the US consulate were killed during clashes at the consulate building.
