On Thursday, hundreds of Iranian students gathered outside the Swiss embassy in Tehran and condemned the anti-Islam movie, which has sparked protests across the Middle East and North Africa.
They lashed out at the US and the regional “reactionary regimes” for their silence on the release of the blasphemous film -- Innocence of Muslims -- and called on Washington to apologize to the entire Muslim world over the matter.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei demanded the United States punish those behind the film.
“The prime suspects in this crime are Zionism and the US government. If the US politicians are honest in their claim of not being involved [in the production of this film], [they] must bring the perpetrators of this hideous crime and their financial backers, who have wrenched the hearts of Muslim nations, to face a punishment proportionate to this great crime,” the Leader said in a statement.
Bacile has acknowledged to US media that he has produced and directed the blasphemous movie thanks to Jewish donations totaling USD 5 million.
In Yemen, four protesters have been killed in clashes with security forces in Sana’a during anti-US demonstrations.
On September 11, demonstrators in Libya attacked the US consulate building in the city of Benghazi, protesting against the movie.
Related anti-US protests have also spilled over into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Protesters gathered on Thursday in front of the US embassy in Riyadh, and a similar protest was also held outside the American consulate in the port city of Jeddah.
In Kuwait, the US embassy staff were evacuated.
