TEHRAN (IQNA) – Muslim scholars and figures attending the 28th International Islamic Unity Conference called for combating Takfiri Fitna (strife) and promoting common religious grounds.

Saudi cleric Seyed Hashim al-Shakhs was among the scholars addressing the conference on the second day.
He regretted that Fitna has spread in many Muslim countries and said the main reason behind it was because moderate scholars have not played their role in countering this threat.
Al-Shakhs said Fatwas (religious edicts) issued by Takfiris are a great danger to the Islamic Ummah because Takfiri groups consider anyone but themselves as infidels.
Nazi Karimi, a Bahraini seminary scholar, was the next speaker. She urged all Muslims to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Bahrain.
She said the Bahraini government has put it on its agenda to detain and oppress religious figures, adding “we expect the unity conference in Tehran to issue a statement in solidarity with the oppressed nation of Bahrain”.
Hojat-ol-Islam Sheikh Hussein Mutawaq from Kuwait said the enemy has sought to deal blows to Islam and Muslim unity and regretted that some Shia and Sunni scholars have fallen into the enemy’s divisive trap.
Zuhairi Misrawi from Indonesia, Sheikh Javad Khalisi from Iraq, Bilal Hassan al-Tall from Jordan, and the Muftis of Tajikistan, Romania and Kyrgyzstan also delivered speeches at the conference.
They all stressed the importance of unity among Muslims and said every follower of Islam should walk on the path of unity.
The international conference kicked off in Tehran on Wednesday with the participation of hundreds of Sunni and Shia scholars and intellectuals from more than 60 countries.
The participants have discussed ways to promote unity and solidarity in the Muslim world and focused on problems facing the Islamic world, such as the threat posed by the Takfiri militants.
The theme of this year’s conference is United Muslim Ummah: Challenges and Strategies.
