Dubai Int’l Quran Award to Kick off Wednesday Night

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 19th edition of Dubai International Holy Quran Award will be launched the UAE city on Wednesday night.

80 Quran memorizers from different Arab, Muslim and non-Muslim countries will compete in the Quranic event, Emirati media reported.


Representatives of Indonesia, Sudan, Oman, Ivory Coast, Tajikistan and Burkina Faso will be the first contenders to go on the stage tonight.


According to Ebrahim Bu Melha, head of the organizing committee, evaluation of the contestants in this year’s edition is done electronically using specially-developed software.


Teenage Iranian Quran memorizer Mohammad Hossein Behzadfar will represent the Islamic Republic at Dubai’s international Quran competition.


The 16-year-old memorizer came first in Iran’s national Quran competition for teenagers last year.


The 19th edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award will run for 21 days.


The annual event also involves a series of lectures in various languages besides the main component of the Quran recitation competition.


This year, it will be held at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.


The winner of the competition will get a cash prize of Dh250,000, while the first runner-up gets Dh200,000 and second runner-up stands to gain Dh150,000.
