TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Lebanese cleric underlined that the Zionists and Takfiri terrorist groups are behind the crises in the region.

Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, the vice-president of Lebanon’s Higher Shia Council, in his Friday prayers sermon yesterday added that the Zionist regime and Talfiri groups continue their crimes and sedition in the region.

He further referred to the situation in Syria and said after years of conflicts, it is now obvious to everyone that the only way out of the current crisis in the Arab country is opting for a political solution, the slabnews website reported.

Syria has been gripped with civil war since March 2011, when foreign-backed terrorists started a deadly war against the country’s people and government.

According to the United Nations, more than 220,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict. Many more have fled their homes since the outbreak of civil war.

Sheikh Qabalan also slammed the silence of some Muslim scholars over the events in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the senior Lebanese cleric referred to the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, and described the annual event as the best opportunity for introducing true Islam to the world.

Hajj is performed from the 8th through the 12th of the lunar month of Dhul-Hijjah, starting on September 2 this year.

Hajj activities include turning around the Ka'aba, the most sacred Islamic site, seven times counterclockwise to show unity among believers worshipping Allah, the Arabic word for God.

All able-bodied Muslims are religiously obliged to perform the Hajj pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.
