Muslims Main Victims of Terrorism: Cleric
Addressing Friday prayers worshippers in Tehran on July 22, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami referred to a recent terrorist attack in Nice, France, and condemned the attack.
He also deplored attempts by some, including French authorities, to attribute these acts of terrorism to Islam.
The cleric noted that Muslims are the main target of terrorism.
Last Thursday, a truck driver plowed through a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, killing 84 people and wounding 200 others.
The 31-year-old Franco-Tunisian assailant, who was later shot dead by police, was identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel.
The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group later claimed responsibility for the deadly attack in Nice.
Ayatollah Khatami stated that Western countries, including France, which have been behind creation of Takfiri terrorist groups, are now facing the consequences, urging the countries to stop supporting such groups.
