Inclusion of Quranic Sciences in Muslim Students Quran Contest Urged
Speaking to IQNA, Mohammad Mehdi Shariatmadar noted that the contest is unique in its kind in the Muslim world.
He said given the current situation in the world, the cultural and civilizational challenges ahead, and the need for getting students acquainted with teachings and culture of the Quran, holding such a contest is a valuable move that can help to lay the foundations of Quranic activities in universities across the Muslim world.
He added that the contest also plays a significant role in promoting unity among Muslims as the Holy Book is the top source of unity in the Muslim Ummah.
Shariatmadar further expressed the hope that in future editions, organizers add more categories, like Tafseer (Quran interpretation) and Quranic sciences, to the current two categories of recitation and memorization.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian cultural attaché pointed to the process of inviting top Lebanese university students in Quranic fields to take part in the competition, saying that invitations have been sent to different universities and academic centers in the Arab country.
The Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organization, affiliated to the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research, has organized the International Quran Competition for Muslim Students biennially since 2006 with the aim of promoting unity and cooperation among Muslim world students and elevating the level of Quranic activities.
The sixth edition of the international Quranic event is slated to be held in the holy city of Mashhad in northeast Iran on January 1-4, 2017.
