TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Kuwaiti memorizer of the Quran won the top title in the “Best of the Best” international Quran competition in Qatar.

Khalid Muhammad Muhsen Ibrahim al-Ainati received a cash prize of S274,000 at the closing ceremony in Doha, according to Al Jazeera.

The Kuwaiti memorizer says he learned the entire Quran by heart at the age of 13 and since them has attended several international Quranic events.

In 2014, he came first in the category of Quran memorization and Tafsir (interpretation) at Jordan’s international Quran competition.

The first edition of Qatar’s "Best of Best” Quran contest was held in Doha last week with the participation of top winners of Quran memorization competitions in different countries.

The 27 contenders were from countries like Palestine, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Nigeria, Chad, Malaysia, Cameroon, Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan, Somalia, Libya, Turkey, Bangladesh, Morocco, Mali, and Mauritania.

Quran experts from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Qatar formed the panel of the judges.

Planned to be held every three years, the competition aims to promote memorization of the Holy Quran and contemplating the Holy Book’s teachings, according to the organizers.
