US Embassy Move to Quds an Aggression on Muslim World
Speaking to Wafa news agency, President of Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said such a move would threaten world peace.
It would be a stark violation of international treaties, laws and values and an insult to the Palestinian nation and Arab and Muslim countries, he stressed.
The Pakistani cleric underlined that the Muslim Ummah (community) would not remain silent over desecration of its sanctities and violation of its rights by the United States.
He also stressed that the Pakistani nation and religious scholars support the struggle of the Palestinian nation to establish a Palestinian state with Quds as its capital.
US President-elect Donald Trump repeatedly said during his campaign that if elected, he would not hesitate to relocate the embassy from Tel Aviv to Quds, which is regarded by Palestinians as their future capital. The controversial decision has evoked Palestinians' bitter opposition.
Palestinians are seeking to create an independent state in the territories of the West Bank, including Quds and the besieged Gaza Strip, with Quds as the capital.
Earlier in the month, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned that "any statement or position that disrupts or changes the status of Quds is a red line which we will never accept.”
The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has already warned the US against moving its embassy to Quds, saying all American embassies in the Arab world would have to close in the face of popular Arab outrage that would follow such an action.
