One by one dozens of protesters approached the mic to share their story and promote solidarity with immigrants and refugees being targeted by, what they call, the exclusionary policies of President Trump.
"Who are being denied entry into the United States. Who are being stranded all over the world. Who are being discriminated against in horrific and overt ways.”
Even children spoke up.
"We don’t like what Trump has to say.”
Some shed tears, like Sara Mohajeri. The immigrant from Iran came to the rally with a special sign her 18 month old son helped to make.
She said her heart hurts for suffering refugees.
Carrick Irwin, a protest organizer, said "He (Trump) signed an executive order without going through any courts or congress or anything. Women, children, families, you know? I felt like we had to do something in solidarity with people from the United States who are facing this kind of discrimination.”
To raise awareness about the Muslim faith, Abdullah Elasmar (el-ass-mar) handed out copies of the Quran.
"We represent a faith followed by billions of people around the globe — that promotes peace and justice and quality. It’s not represented by the action of a few crazies out there,” he said.
These protesters, armed with dozens of powerful signs, said even though the ban exists south of the boarder… it’s important to stand up against the divide.
"It’s wrong to not do something.”
