Speaking to IQNA, Omar bin Ahmed Busaada, who serves as a member of the panel of judges in the

34th International Holy Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said organizing a number of such international events at the same time requires a lot of efforts and mobilization of manpower and equipment.

The competition began in Tehran on Thursday. There are four other international Quran contests underway in Iran as well, namely those for the visually-impaired, women, school students and seminary students.

Busaada noted that there may have been simultaneous Quran contests at the national level in some countries but not so many international Quranic events.

He further hailed the competitions as a venue gathering Quran reciters and memorizers from different Muslim and non-Muslim countries around the theme of the Holy Quran.

The Algerian Quran expert described most the participants in the recitation category as average in terms of their skills in the area and Waqf and Ibtida, stressing that Qaris and Quran learners ought to pay more attention to the rules of Waqf and Ibtida in addition to the rules of Tajweed.

As for the regulations of the contests, he said there are good and praiseworthy points in the regulations but also points that can be improved.

Elsewhere, the Algerian Quranic figure referred to his Quranic activities, saying he has served as an arbiter in Quran competitions in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and France.

He said it is the first time he takes part in Iran’s Quran competition as a member of the judging panel but has previously traveled to Iran as a guide to an Algerian contestant.
