Iraqi Winners of Int’l Quran Contests in Iran Honored

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A number of Iraqi Quran activists who won top ranks in recent international Quran competitions in Iran were honored in a ceremony held earlier this week.

The ceremony was held during the 13th international festival of "Spring of Martyrdom” in Karbala and on the sidelines of a Quran recitation session.

The Imam Hassan (AS) Hall of the holy mausoleum of Hazrat Abbas (AS) hosted the event.

Five international Quranic contests, namely Iran’s 34th International Holy Quran Competition as well as international Quran contests for women, visually-impaired, school students and seminary students, were held in the Islamic Republic of Iran last week.

Several Iraqis were among winners of different ranks in the competitions.

They included Muhammad Hussein Shilal who came third in the memorization category of the contest for the visually-impaired, Falah Zalif, the runner-up in the 34th International Holy Quran Competition of Iran, and Zaynab al-Mousawi who bagged the third prize in the competition for women.

A number of Iraqi Quranic figures as well as Quran reciters from Egypt were present at the honoring ceremony.

The "Spring of Martyrdom” international festival was held in Karbala with the participation of Quranic, religious, cultural, political, academic and media personalities from 35 countries, including Iran, Turkey, Libya, India, Pakistan, Syria, the US, Ghana, Tanzania, Morocco, Poland, Spain, Algeria and Kuwait.
