Speakers in Middleton Event Look to Dispel Misconceptions about Islam

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A panel of speakers will provide insight on the Islamic faith Sunday as they aim to dispel misconceptions about the religion.


The "Clearing Misconceptions About Islam" event runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday in Middleton, US state of Wisconsin.

It features four speakers from across the country to talk on a range of topics. The free event is being sponsored by the Madinah Community Center, a mosque on Madison's West Side.

It will take place at the Madison Marriott West at 1313 John Q Hammons Drive in Middleton.

Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne is set to speak on relationships with the Dane County Muslim population.

Hadia Mubarak, a lecturer on religion at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and South Carolina's Winthrop University, will talk about women's rights in Islam.

She'll be followed by Sheikh Azfar Uddin, an imam from Illinois, who will talk about the topic of Sharia law. Sheikh Alhagie Jallow, an imam at Madison's Madinah Community Center, is set to speak on the concept of jihad and the fact that it is totally unrelated to terrorism.

Following the lectures, an hour-long question and answer session for all the participants will end the event.
