TEHRAN (IQNA) – Quran reading sessions are held every day at the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to the website of the Dar-ol-Quran Center of the holy shrine’s Astan (custodianship), the program is annually held by the center in the holy month.

Ramadan Quran reading sessions for women are also underway at "Imam Hussein (AS)” town in Karbala in cooperation with the Basair Institute.

Various branches of the center in other countries, including the holy city of Qom, Iran, Lebanon, Indonesia and Thailand, have organized different Quranic programs in the holy month.

Other Quran reading sessions are being held on the occasion of Ramadan in the holy shrines of Imam Ali (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Najaf and Karbala.

Different courtyards of the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) host children and teenagers who participate in Tarteel recitation sessions organized for the second year.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, it began on Saturday, May 27.

During Ramadan, Muslims all over the world fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
