Contestants from eight countries answered questions of the panel of judges on the first night.
According to Ali Feizi, Iran’s representative in the international Quranic event, each contestant is asked to recite three separate pages of the Quran from memory.
He told IQNA that the contenders from Oman and Ghana had a better performance than others on the first night.
The twelve-year-old Iranian Quran memorizer’s turn to showcase his Quranic talents will be on Sunday.
According to Ahmad Al Zahid, a member of the organizing committee, the organizers had invited over 120 Islamic countries and foreign Islamic communities in Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia to participate in the award this year, with 100 countries agreeing to participate.
The top winner of the contest will receive a prize money of Dh250,000, while the second and third prize winners walk away with Dh200,000 and Dh150,000, respectively.
The contest will last till the 19th of Ramadan, when the award ceremony will take place.
