TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 18th edition of Syria’s national Quran contest will kick off on Saturday.

Syria to Hold Nat’l Quran Contest

According to al-Jamahir news website, the categories of the contest are Quran memorization and interpretation.

Syrian Awqaf Minister Muhammad Abdul Sattar al-Sayed will supervise the competition, which will be held by al-Assad Quran Memorization and Interpretation Institute in cooperation with Noor al-Shaam satellite network.

The Ali Zain al-Abdein Mosque in Aleppo will host the Quranic event.

Muhammad Rami al-Ubaid, the director of the city’s Awqaf Department, in a recent meeting with other related officials reviewed the preparations for organizing the competition.

He noted at the meeting that it will be the first time Aleppo hosts the Quran competition after the city’s liberation from terrorist groups.

The Syrian army recently recaptured the city from foreign-backed terrorists.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
