Arbaeen Media Center Opens in Karbala

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine opened a special media center for Arbaeen pilgrimage at the Sahn (courtyard) of Hazrat Zeynab (SA) at the holy shrine in Karbala, Iraq.

According to the information office of the Astan, Afdhal Shami, deputy of the Astan’s custodian, said the main objective of the center is coordinating the news coverage of the pilgrimage.

Jamal Shahrestani, head of the office, said that more than 500 media foundations including 100 satellite networks have been covering the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

Millions of pilgrims from different countries have gathered in the holy city of Karbala to perform mourning rituals on the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

The Arbaeen ritual is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Each year, millions of pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to Karbala.

Last year, around 20 million pilgrims gathered in Karbala on Arbaeen, making the world’s largest human gathering in modern history.
