Iranian Qaris among Reciters at Int’l Arbaeen Quranic Event

The Dar-ol-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Karbala hosted the Quran recitation session on Friday, which marked Arbaeen in Iraq.

According to the website of the Astan, Qaris from Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia’s Shia-majority regions attended the session and recited the Quran.

Safa Silawi, an official with the Dar-ol-Quran Center, said the Quranic event was held for the fourth consecutive year.

He said Iraqi Qaris Falah Zalif and Osama Karbalayi and Iranian reciters Mohammad Taqipoor and Mehdi Foroughi were among the participants in the Quran recitation session.

It also included Tawasheeh (religious singing) performances in praise of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), he went on to say.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.

In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including Iran, have taken part in the mourning ceremonies in the Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.
