‘Union of Muslim Scholars’ Official Slams Saudi Move

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt on Thursday added two Islamic organizations, including the International Union of Muslim Scholars, and 11 individuals to their existing "terror list”.

State-run Saudi Press Agency issued a joint statement by the four countries on Thursday, saying the quartet's move was taken "in light of their commitment to fighting terrorism, drying up their sources of funding, combating extremist ideology…and its promotion”.

Ahmad Al-Raysouni, the union’s deputy head, condemned the decision, saying it had no legal or political value.

World countries consider this decision worthless, he told Anadolu Agency.

Head of the union Yusuf al-Qaradawi was initially on the list when it was first released in June.

Saudi Arabia and its allies, which have imposed a land, sea, and air blockade on Qatar since June, accuse Doha of supporting terrorism. Qatar has denied this.
