Representatives of 20 countries took part in the Quranic event, hqmi.or.sa reported.
It was held by the African country’s Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in cooperation with the Quran Memorization Teaching Society, a charity institute.
Senior figures, including former president Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Tanzania’s Mufti Sheikh Abu Bakr bin ZUbair bin Ali, and ambassadors of a number of Arab and Muslim countries in Tanzania took part at the closing ceremony.
Winners of the competition were awarded at the ceremony. and Abdullah Basfar, the secretary general of the World Association of Quran Memorization, was honored as the Quranic Personality of the Year.
Tanzania is a country in East Africa where Islam is the religion of about 35 percent of the population.
On the mainland, Muslim communities are concentrated in coastal areas, with some large Muslim majorities also in inland urban areas especially and along the former caravan routes. More than 99 percent of the population of the Zanzibar archipelago is Muslim.
