TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas) called on the state’s Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller to remove an Islamophobic message posted online and to apologize to the Muslim community.

Muslims Calls on Texas Ag Official to Drop Fake Islamophobic Post, Apologize

On Sunday, Miller posted a fake story about US President Donald Trump removing a federal judge from the "22nd court of criminal appeals" for trying to implement Sharia law in the United States. The 22nd court of appeals does not exist.

The following Tuesday, despite acknowledging that the post was indeed fake, Miller only updated his comment to state that Sharia has no place in the United States. Despite his clarification, the post was shared more than 7,000 times and the comment section is filled with Islamophobic responses.

This is not the first time Miller has shared Islamophobic posts and fake news stories about Muslims on Facebook with his over 600,000 followers. Miller previously suggested dropping a nuclear bomb on the Muslim world, falsely declared that what he called "Islamic” terrorists had established a training camp in rural Texas and shared a fake story about a landlord that asked a tenant to remove the American flag because it offends Muslims.

"As an elected official and a community leader, the Texas agriculture commissioner has a responsibility to all Texans to refrain from promoting fake news that is only intended to create division and mistrust in the community,” said CAIR-Austin Executive Director Maira Sheikh.

CAIR said it has witnessed an unprecedented increase in hate incidents targeting American Muslims and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump.
