TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in international affairs, slammed the US president’s announcement that Quds is the capital of the Israeli regime.

US to Regret Decision to Relocate Embassy

US President Donald Trump made the announcement that the US would recognize Jerusalem (Quds) as the capital of the Zionist regime - and begin efforts to move its embassy there - during a televised address on Wednesday evening.

The move drew worldwide condemnation and angry protests in Palestine and elsewhere in the Muslim world.

“Trump must know that this (relocating US embassy) would be the last blow to the US political life in West Asia and the Muslim world and it would not be too long before the American rulers will regret the decision,” Velayati said on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the 31st International Islamic Unity Conference.

It would spark the fury of over 1.5 billion Muslims, he added.

Velyati underlined that Palestine remains the number one issue in the Muslim world and all the plots hatched in the Muslim world and the war waged in the region are actually aimed at sidelining this issue and guaranteeing security for the Zionist regime.

He said the “imprudent and aggressive” American president, who is angry at the defeat of US barbaric agents, namely Daesh (ISIS or ISIL), has made a stupid decision.

He went on to say that the US rulers will regret making such a move because it will spark the fury and rage of Muslims all over the world.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Velayati underscored the importance of unity in the Islamic world in the face of conspiracies hatched against it.

The 31st edition of the Islamic Unity Conference was held in Tehran on December 6-7 with the participation of Muslim scholars, thinkers and politicians from around the world.

It marked the Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar, which fell on December 6 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
