TEHRAN (IQNA) – The second and main round of Sudan’s international Quran competition will begin on Tuesday.

The 9th edition of the competition is underway in the capital Khartoum in two separate sections for men and women.

According to al-Arab newspaper, it will run until Saturday, January 13.

Those who successfully passed the preliminary round on Sunday and Monday will compete for the top prize in the finals.

A total of 73 Quran memorizers from 50 countries have taken part in the contest.

Iran is being represented by memorizer of the entire Quran Mohammad Rasoul Takbiri.

According to Maaz Fatih al-Hajj, an official with the organizing committee, the contestants will also attend a number of sideline programs, including seminars and cultural events.

He said the sideline programs will include lectures featuring the miracles of the Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Last year, 74 Quran memorizers from 55 countries took part in the competition’s 8th edition.
