357 Qaris Attending Ras al-Khaimah Quran Contest
TEHRAN (IQNA) – The final stage of the 18th edition of the Ras al-Khaimah national Quran award is underway in the UAE city.
It is being held in two separate sections for men and women, according to al-Arab al-Yawm daily.
Ahmed Mohammad Shahi, director general of the Ras al-Khaimah Quranic Sciences Institute that organizes the event, said Emirati nationals as well as expatriates have taken part in the contest.
Some 1550 attended the preliminary round of whom 357 made it to the finals.
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the city is hosting the competition, which will run until Tuesday.
A number of prominent Quran masters form the event’s panel of judges.
Ras al-Khaimah city is the capital of Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate of the United Arab Emirates.
