Speaking to IQNA, Adel Mahmoud Khalil said teaching all the rules and regulations of Quran recitation and Tajweed is not possible through such networks but using them and other opportunities provided by modern technologies for teaching Quranic skills is well advised.
Khalil, who is a Quran reciter and expert and has served as member of panel of judges in a number of international Quran competitions, said the traditional method of teaching the Quran in schools, mosques and Quranic circles was an effective and successful one.
But, he said, it is necessary that we adopt new developments and advances and employ modern methods and technologies for teaching the Quran and promoting its concepts.
“We should not forget that the internet and social networks are available to most people in the world today, and this is a valuable opportunity for us to use them to teach the Quran and its sciences … to people.”
Khalil, who is the director of the Quran Teaching Center affiliated to Lebanon’s Quran Society, said the center has launched a website for those willing to learn the Quran that offers courses on Quran recitation, Tafsir (interpretation) and other Quranic sciences.
Anyone living anywhere in the world and with any background can benefit from such courses, he said.
Asked about Takfiri groups’ use of the internet and social networks to spread wrong interpretations of the Quran, Khalil said it is nothing new as such groups would use any means to spread their deviated thoughts.
He said Muslim scholars and thinkers should not remain silent but should employ all available means to promote the true teachings of Islam and the Quran and counter deviated ideologies.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Lebanese Quran activist urged all Muslims, especially the youth, to try to act upon the teachings of the Holy Quran in addition to memorizing and reciting its verses.
