Int’l Quran Contest Kicks Off in Egypt’s Port Said

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An international competition on Quran memorization and Ibtihal (religious signing) began in Port Said, Egypt, on Friday.

  

Representatives of Egypt and ten other Arab countries are present in the contest.

According to al-Yawm al-Sabi, the opening ceremony began with recitation of verses from the Quran, followed by a number of speeches and Ibtihal performances.

Also present were family members of late Egyptian Quran master Sheikh Mohamed Rafa’at, after whose name the first edition of the competition has been named.

Winners of the top three ranks in the two categories of the competition will receive cash prizes totaling 500,000 Egyptian pounds.
