Quran Memorization Contributes to Better Life for Visually-Impaired
Speaking to IQNA, Abdullah Hamad Salim Hamad Abdu Shurayda said it contributes to a better life for the visually-impaired both personally and socially.
They are much more respected in society when they memorize the Quran, said Abu Shurayda, who attended the 2018 International Quran Competition for the Visually-Impaired in Iran.
He added that memorization of the Holy Book also helped him, as a visually-impaired, to better learn his lessons at school and university and gave him more hope in life.
The Qatari Quran activist further hailed the Iran Quran competition as one of the best in the world, saying from among Quranic events he has attended in Muslim countries, those in Iran, Kuwait and Lebanon have been better held in terms of content and organization.
He noted that it was his first participation in an international Quran competition in the Islamic Republic.
Asked about his Quran learning method, he said he memorized the Quran by reading a braille copy of the Holy Book.
It took him four years to memorize the entire Quran, he said, adding that he reviews at least three Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book every day to enhance his memorization.
Abu Shurayda was further asked about Quranic education in Qatar. He said there are various facilities and centers in the Persian Gulf Arab country for the people to learn the Quran.
For the visually-impaired, meanwhile, there is a special center to learn the Holy Book, he noted, adding that it is a private one but has been supported by the government of Qatar.
The blind individuals who want to learn the Quran are also provided with a book specially designed to teach the Quran to this group of people, Abu Shurayda went on to say.
