TEHRAN (IQNA) – An academic research workshop on “the status of Muharram among non-Muslims of Telangana” will be held in Hyderabad, the capital of the Indian state of Telangana, on September 9.

According to the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, the program will be organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in India ahead of Muharram month (the first month of the lunar Islamic calendar).

The workshop aims to highlight the importance of mourning rituals and holding mourning ceremonies in different countries for Imam Hussein (AS) and his household who were martyred on the 10th day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the 680AD Battle of Karbala.

The representative office of the Supreme Leader in India and the Deccan History Society in Hyderabad will cooperate in holding the workshop.

The historical reasons of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising, how a culture is established in the Hindu society and how the society accepts an important reality will be investigated in the one-day program.

A large number of Indian academic figures and Iranian PhD students have sent papers to be presented at the workshop.

The selected papers will be published in a booklet titled “A Collection of Papers on the Status of Muharram among Non-Muslims in Telangana State”.
