IRIB to Broadcast Special Programs in Muharram
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, Mohammad Hossein Mohammadzadeh, secretary of the IRIB Islamic Teachings Council and director of the Quran TV, said the IRIB attaches special importance to the issue of Muharram (the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar the first ten days of which see ceremonies organized by Shia Muslims around the world to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his faithful companions in the 680AD Battle of Karbala).
He said the Quran TV will have the highest number of special programs on the occasion.
According to the official, the programs include religious speeches featuring the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS), elegy recitations, and coverage of mourning ceremonies in different cities across the country.
This year, the month of Muharram begins on Tuesday, September 11, and the mourning rituals culminate on the tenth day of the month known as Ashura (September 20).
