60 Countries to Attend Sudan Int’l Quran Contest

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 10th edition of Sudan’s international Quran competition will be attended by representatives from 60 countries, an official said.

 

Ali al-Zain Mabruk, head of the Khartoum International Quran Award, said the Sudanese capital will host the event on January 7-12, 2019.

He said men and women from 60 countries will compete in different sections on memorization of the entire Quran along with interpretation of the 21st Juz (part) of the Holy Book.

According to the official, Sheikh Muhammad al-Hassan Busu from Senegal heads the panel of judges.

He added that the closing ceremony, slated for January 13, will be attended by Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

There will be a number of sideline programs for the participants, he went on to say.

The 9th edition of the contest was held in December 2018 with the motto of “Sudan Warmly Welcomes People of Quran”.

Mohammad Rasoul Takbiri represented the Islamic Republic of Iran and came 8th in the 2018 competition.
