Winners of Port Said Quran Contest Announced

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Winners of the second edition of an international Quran competition in Port Said, Egypt, were awarded in a ceremony Tuesday.

  

The ceremony was attended by a number of officials, including Adil al-Ghazban, the governor of Port Said, Sadi al-balad website reported.

In an address, al-Ghazban said the city was proud to host the international Quran competition, named after legendary Egyptian Qari Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, for the second time.

A total of 55 contenders from 29 Arab and African countries took part in the contest, organized under the auspices of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly.

They competed in three categories of Quran memorization, Quran recitation, and Tawasheeh and Ibtihal.

The panel of judges, headed by Al-Azhar scholar Abdul Karim Salih, was made up of Quran experts from Egypt, Sudan, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.
