TEHRAN (IQNA) – Representatives of 35 countries started competing in Jordan’s 14th international Quran contest for women.

The Quranic event got underway in a ceremony on Saturday, according to Al-Ray daily.

Hatam Sahimat, an official with the Jordanian Awqaf Ministry, which has organized the contest, said the contenders compete on memorization and recitation of the Quran.

He added that every day, 8 participants showcase their Quranic talents at the contest, which will run until Thursday.

Iran is represented by Fatemeh Shirazi, a memorizer of the entire Quran who came second in the country’s national Quran competition last year.
