TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Japanese woman who has converted to Islam said the September 11 attacks in the US first prompted her to study about Islam.

Speaking Friday night at a program at the Rahyaftegan (those who found the right path) Section of the 27th Tehran International Quran Exhibition, Fatemeh (Atsuku) Hushino, said that after the 9/11 attacks, the media started a propaganda campaign against Islam.

She decided that she should study about the religion to find out the truth.

“After doing much research, I realized that the media spread lies. Through my uncle who was a convert to Christianity, I was familiar with the Bible and after comparing it with the Quran, I realized that Islam’s Holy Book is more comprehensive.”

Asked about her family’s reactions, Hushino said they were absolutely opposed to her decision at first and tried to persuade her to become a Buddhist again.

“They were especially opposed to my Hijab,” said, said, adding that they later managed to come to an understanding about the issue.

The 27th Tehran International Quran Exhibition is underway at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) with the motto of “Quran, Meaning of Life”. It will run until May 24.

Every night at the Rahyaftegan Section, a Muslim convert explains his or her journey to Islam.
