--A ten-day Islamic Peace conference began Mumbai on Friday to deliberate issues relating to the peaceful co-existence of the community and contribution in the development of the world.
The conference would benefit Muslims and non-Muslims and focus on removing fear, misconception and hatred towards Islam and Muslims worldwide, scholars and Moulanas (religious pundits) from different parts of the country told reporters here.

The scholars will address some of the burning issues that India and the world faces and will attempt to explore solutions for global peace and peace within the country, they said.

The issues include 'Islam and terrorism', 'Justice for Peace', 'Human rights', 'Role of religion and communal harmony' etc, they said.

"The picture painted about Islam, specially in the past decade, is not the real one. It is a distorted, mostly maligned image that is shown to the world. This platform does not seek to impose our thoughts on anyone but wants to convey the real message and true spirit of Islam," said Dr Zakir Naik, President of the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF).

It will be an interactive conference and has been organized by IRF, he said.

Some of the scholars attending the meeting include Dr Wasiullah Abbas from Mecca, Dr Obaidullah Fahad, Aligarh Muslim university and IOSN, Delhi, Ejaz Ahmed Aslam from Vellor, Tamil Nadu, Maulana Jalauddin Umri, founding father of Islamic Personal Law Board, Maulana Sirajul Hasan of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Fazail-ur-Qasmi of Punjab, and Maulana Salman Nadwi from Bhiwandi, Maharashtra.
