TEHRAN (IQNA) – The United Nations children’s fund says 47 Yemeni children have been killed or maimed in the Saudi-led aggression in the first two months of 2022.

In a statement, UNICEF announced that the world is witnessing the worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Since the start of the war in 2015, some 377,000 civilians have directly or indirectly lost their lives, it added, noting that people are paying the price of this war and destruction, the Arabic service of TRT reported.

The war has undermined public health, education, economy, and other sectors of the country as more than 3 million displaced people are now living in camps or in schools.

More than 2,500 schools in Yemen are now unusable due to destruction or conversion into shelters for the displaced, said the report, adding that more than 2 million children have been lost the chance to continue their education.

UNICEF urged for a political solution for the crisis so that Yemenis and their children could live in the peace that they deserve.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies, backed by the US and European powers, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power and crushing popular Ansarullah resistance movement.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.

Despite Saudi Arabia’s incessant bombardment of the impoverished country, the Yemeni armed forces have gradually grown stronger, leaving Riyadh and its allies, most notably the UAE, bogged down in the country.
