LONDON (IQNA) – A new development project, which includes a grand Mosque, community centre, school, commercial units, and apartments, is set to transform an area of Birmingham known as Sparkbrook.

The project, called Crescent, has received planning permission from Birmingham City Council in 2020 and is designed by MADE Architecture in Solihull. The grand, contemporary Mosque will be one of the largest mosques in Europe and will sit alongside residential and commercial blocks.

The construction of the landmark mosque is set to begin at the end of 2023, and the Islamic Centre of Britain (ICOB) is responsible for the project. ICOB is an ambitious project of Qadria Trust, a UK registered charity based in Birmingham. The trust has appealed for donations to create the mosque.

According to BirminghamWorld, the mosque will be able to accommodate up to 2,500 worshippers during peak Friday prayers while a maximum of 500 could use it at other times.

The double-height prayer hall will be 640 square metres in area, and the upper floors will include a conference hall, exhibition halls, a library, and roof garden.

The mosque will feature a gold and grey finish with triangular geometry, offering a nod to traditional Islamic architecture while maintaining a striking contemporary form.

The development will be one to regenerate the area on a gateway site into the city centre, and each development will have roof gardens to create amenity spaces for residents, community centre users, and school students.
