IQNA – An Islamic scholar says Imam Sadiq (AS) played a pivotal role in preserving Islam and reviving Islamic teachings through training students and guiding society in the right direction.

The Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad is preparing to host mourning processions on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sadiq (AS) that will be marked on May 4, 2024.

Imam Sadiq (AS) was the founder of a school that played a pivotal role in preserving the religion of Islam and steering the Islamic society in the right direction,” Hojat-ol-Islam Rahbar Mohammadi told IQNA on Saturday.

“His school was home to 4,000 proficient students, each of whom echoed the Imam’s wisdom and worked to prevent the spread of anti-Islamic and destructive ideologies among Muslims,” the cleric added.

The remarks come as Shia Muslims and others in Iran and other countries hold various rituals to mourn the martyrdom of the 6th Imam (AS) that falls on Saturday this year.

Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS), the sixth Imam, attained martyrdom on the 25th of Shawwal in the year 148 AH.

It was during the Caliphate of Abu Jafar Mansoor Abbasi. Imam Sadiq (AS) lived 65 years.

He had the longest life amongst the other Imams (AS) except Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent). Thus, he is also called the Sheikh-ul-Aimma.

The school of thought established by Imam Sadiq (AS) served as a beacon for the revival of Islamic teachings, Mohammadi said.

The accomplishments of the Shias in religious education can be attributed to the cultural jihad led by Imam Sadiq (AS), said the cleric. “He presented Islam and its jurisprudence from the viewpoint of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) and Shia culture, which is rooted in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Ali (AS), to the world.”

One of the key principles of Imam Sadiq’s (AS) life was to clarify the concept of Imamate and disseminate the tenets of the religion from a Shia perspective, said the cleric. “Imam Sadiq (AS) seized every opportunity to defend the faith, validate Shiism, and propagate the true teachings of Islam using robust and compelling arguments.”

Like his esteemed ancestors, Imam Sadiq (AS) strived to reform the Ummah of the Prophet (PBUH) from any deviations and aberrations, said Mohammadi, adding that Imam Sadiq (AS) was a champion and reviver of pure Shia culture and authentic Islam.

“He devoted significant efforts to disseminate pure knowledge and revive the hadiths, particularly the accurate interpretation of the Prophet’s (PBUH) hadiths. This is why Shia hadith sources are replete with Imam Sadiq’s (AS) enlightening words, and most hadiths are narrated from him,” he added.

Imam Sadiq (AS) endeavored to enhance people’s understanding and knowledge of the lofty status of Imamate as his tireless efforts led people to recognize the position of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS), the cleric stressed.

The efforts of Imam Sadiq (AS) in elucidating Shia ideas, fortifying beliefs, promoting values, interacting with Shias, setting up a scientific university, and training skilled students are part of his fundamental contributions in the cultural and religious field, which warrant separate and detailed discussion, Mohammadi said.
