Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said that since its independence, Malaysia has been committed to strengthening Tahfiz (memorization), Quran recitation and Quranic education through various private and government institutions, including with the establishment of Dar-ul-Quran centers.
He made the remarks during a visit by the imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb to a Dar-ul-Quran Center in Kuala Kubu Bharu on Wednesday.
Na’im Mokhtar added that since its establishment in 1966, the Dar-ul-Quran Center in Kuala Kubu Bharu has played a big role in Quran memorization in Malaysia.
“Until now, it has produced more than 11,000 graduates who played an important role in shaping the personality of the Ummah and at the same time encouraging the development of memorization education in the country,” he said.
“Even at the tertiary level, Quran memorization has been introduced as one of the fields of study and as an added value for professional studies.”
