Some 5.5m Pilgrims Visit Prophet's Mosque in One Week

IQNA – The Prophet's Mosque in Medina welcomed 5,475,443 worshippers last week as a report shows more than 18 million people visited the holy city in 2024.

 

In the last week, 644,670 visitors greeted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) while 376,765 worshippers performed prayers in the Al Rawda Al Sharifa, according to SPA reports.

Additionally, 31,739 individuals from various nationalities benefited from translation services.

Field operations included the use of 24,053 liters of disinfectant for sterilization activities. Moreover, 1,480 tons of Zamzam water were consumed, and 152 samples were collected for testing and analysis.

In a related development, the number of visitors to Medina reached 18 million last year, according to a local official.

Secretary of the Medina Region Development Authority, Fahd Al Balehshi, stated at a conference on the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Jeddah that the average stay in the city has increased from two days in 2019 to more than 10 days currently. He noted that about 50% of projects in Medina are government-funded.

Al Balehshi also mentioned that more than 200 archaeological and historical sites in the city are slated for renovation, with 100 currently under development.

In 2023, 14.1 million people visited Medina, marking a 6 million increase compared to 2022. Visitor spending during this period exceeded SR49.7 billion, as reported by the Medina Region Development Authority last year.

After performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, many pilgrims travel to Medina to pray at the Prophet's Mosque and visit other Islamic sites in the city. The Prophet's Mosque houses Al Rawda Al Sharifa, where the tomb of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is located.
