In Pictures: Picturesque Maharloo Lake in SW Iran
IQNA – Maharloo Lake is a seasonal salt lake located southeast of Shiraz, Iran. The lake is known for its striking pinkish-red hue, caused by the high salinity and the growth of halophilic microorganisms and algae.
During the dry season, much of the lake evaporates, leaving behind vast salt deposits. It has historically been a source of salt extraction and serves as a habitat for migratory birds, including flamingos, when water levels allow.
