It is associated with various concepts, including faith and piety.
The derivatives and related words of Tawakkul have been used in the Quran approximately seventy times in various contexts. It can be said that the most important theme associated with Tawakkul in the Quran is faith.
The phrase “In Allah let the believers put their trust” is repeated in multiple Surahs of the Quran, clearly stating that Tawakkul is an essential aspect of faith.
Numerous other verses also support this notion. During the command of Prophet Moses (AS) for the Bani Isra’il to enter the Holy Land, they hesitated to fulfill this duty out of fear of a powerful group residing there (Verses 21-22 of Surah Al-Ma’idah).
Then two pious men say, “Proceed through the gates and when you enter the city you will be victorious. Have trust in God if you are true believers.” (Verse 23 of Surah Al-Ma’idah)
These two individuals are described in several ways in the verse. Firstly, they were God-fearing and had no fear of anyone other than God. Secondly, they were blessed with divine grace, which is the guardianship of God. The result of these two qualities is that they were certain they would achieve victory as soon as they entered the city.
These characteristics lead to a reliance on God, which is essential for jihad on the path of God. At the end of the verse, it is emphasized that faith is a necessary condition for this reliance.
In the Holy Quran, Tawakkul is also used alongside Taqwa (God-fearing). God says in Verses 2-3 of Surah At-Talaq, “Whosoever fears Allah, He will appoint for him a way out, and provide for him from where he does not expect.”

And in two verses, patience is mentioned alongside Tawakkul: “… such are those who are patient, and put their trust in their Lord.” (Verse 42 of Surah An-Nahl and Verse 59 of Surah Al-Ankabut)
These verses indicate that Tawakkul is connected to the stage of determination and manifests in practical actions alongside concepts such as faith, submission, trust, piety, and patience.
In other words, the culmination of these concepts creates a semantic network in relation to Tawakkul, making it essential to pay attention to these influential concepts for a better understanding of Tawakkul.
